What therapies do you use?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
I’m really drawn to the principles and practices of ACT as it helps clients become aware of and accept their emotions and thoughts without struggling against them. This then provides space to focus on and commit to actions based on their values and what they decide is important. I also really value the use of metaphor in ACT.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients make sense of and understand the patterns related to their thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours. CBT is a highly effective therapy and can help to break down patterns of avoidance, understand the impact of thoughts, and lead to trying new behaviours, which can make a huge difference.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I have seen some amazing shifts with EMDR. This theory suggests that different beliefs were formed out of past experiences/trauma. I work with clients to process these memories so they are able to talk about their experiences without the level of disturbance previously felt. We also work on preparing for how they’d like things to be in the future.
